Guided Night Kayak Tours
Few visitors to the Orlando area are aware of the fact that the Indian River Lagoon is home to truly unique and magical natural phenomena. The nighttime waters glow! During the summer months on the Indian and Banana Rivers every movement in the water produces light! The movement of your paddle or a school of fish leaves a blue-green trail. The movement of manatees and stingrays leave a slow-moving glow. Every movement in the water produces light with bioluminescence. It’s a great time of year for a sunset/evening kayak tour.
Calypso Kayaking also offers a Comb Jelly Bio Kayak Tour. These tours run at night (so you can see them glow), and are offered seasonally – generally December-March. As these jellyfish do prefer the cooler temps provided by this time of the year. These jellies do not sting, but they do. give off a bioluminescent green light. You will see them give off sparks of light with every paddle stroke!
We also offer kayak tours on the tranquil moonlit waters of the lagoon. This is a night time excursion where you can relax under the moon and starts with an experienced local guide. It’s quite a memorable experience!
